Celebrating business excellence and community at the Spirit of Enterprise Awards
The most prestigious annual celebration of business excellence in the Great Yarmouth borough, the Spirit of Enterprise Awards, culminated in a glittering awards evening on Friday 23rd November 2018.
Organised by enterpriseGY, the awards recognised some of the top achievements from local businesses. Potters Friends Foundation sponsored the Great Community Contribution category and had a tough category selecting a winner after meeting all the finalists.
The team eventually chose Home Start Norfolk as its winner, with its incredible team of volunteers making a real difference in our community.
Home-Start, a charity, is dedicated to helping children and changing lives, offering support and practical help to parents with young children across Norfolk. It offers a unique service, recruiting and training volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, to visit families at home who have at least one child under five to offer support with various issues, including school readiness, mental health, social and rural isolation, and healthy eating.
They work alongside parents, in their own homes, to help them cope with the stresses and strains of life and make sure they have the skills, confidence and strength they need to nurture their children. The first five years of a child’s life, between birth and starting school, are vital for their development.
Nathan Moore, our CEO, said in his speech before giving the award to Home Start: “We eventually voted for Home-Start as our winner who are primarily volunteer based and, despite extreme recent funding cuts and centre closures, continue to be a hugely positive support base for families requiring help in our community. The work they do with families is not simply a short term fix; time spent is always with an eye on the future in ensuring the families they help can continue to help themselves moving forward. The statistics given in their entry highlight from a parent perspective the results and benefit the Home-Start volunteers provide in the community. We believe that the team at Home-Start over perform in their duties and responsibilities to families in our community and deserve the utmost of recognition for the work that they do.”
