Fundraisers raise £1,250, walking 84 miles and the finishing line is Potters Resort
A massive congratulations to Judith Marney, 69, and her friend Jeanne Heal, 68, who walked 84 miles in six days on the Norfolk Coast Path and raised £1,250 for Boudicca Breast Cancer Appeal.
Judith and Jeanne walked an average of seven hours a day, walking from Hunstanton to Hopton-on-Sea to fundraise to help reduce delays in cancer diagnosis.
Some of the Potters Resort team greeted them as they crossed the finish line and presented them with flowers and a cheque for £250 on behalf of the Potters Friends Foundation, making the total raised £1,250. We also treated them to a much-deserved drink as we heard about their amazing adventures, including seeing three snakes on the path, and a special mention to their partners, John and Andre, for supporting them along the way!
The Boudicca Cancer Appeal needs to raise £800,000 to provide a new dedicated breast cancer unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The breast cancer unit has seen an 80{d7add0c0757ab8f5f3519b9c44dfa5d68336156785d7f1efcb577864635363f9} increase in patient numbers over the past five years and numbers are continuing to grow. While many patients referred to the unit receive same-day diagnostic tests and clinical and imagining assessment, others are unable to be seen on one day and are asked to return for scanning, facing a scary wait of what can be weeks. The new facility would mean that they can offer the same-day service to every patient, not least to reduce this stress and anxiety faced by patients and their families.
Judith first got breast cancer 22 years ago and ran the London Marathon to raise funds for a cancer charity. The cancer returned and Judith got a cancer diagnosis in October 2018, and faced a six week delay from the mammogram to the date of diagnosis. The aim of the Boudicca breast unit is to eliminate such delays. Following treatment, Judith is hopefully cancer free.
Over the years, Judith has raised around £20,000 for charity – truly amazing.
Catching up with them and their partners after, their friendship was clear to see and they were emotional at completing the challenge and at the generosity of everyone.
On behalf of everyone at Potters Friends Foundation and at Potters Resort, a massive well done at this remarkable feat.
