Team raises £170.63 for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning
The sales & marketing team at Potters Resort got baking, and eating, to raise money for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The team raised plenty of dough for the charity, with over £170.63 being collected from the event.
Dozens of homemade cakes were on offer, including chocolate cake, coffee cake, brownies and millionaires shortbread, as well as savoury treats, such as cheese scones and sausage rolls.
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, this year held on Friday 28th September 2018, is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising even for people facing cancer. In 2017 over £27 million was raised from the event.
2018 is the 28th annual coffee morning, which encourages people to come together over cake and coffee, while raising money for vital cancer support services.
Macmillan provide specialist nurses for those affected by cancer, as well as family support, rights advisers and volunteers.
The charity also influence Government policy to improve cancer patient’s experience, and are entirely funded by donations and grants.
The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning and donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process. The idea seemed such a simple, yet effective one that they suggested the model be taken up nationally and in 1991 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country.
By 2020 almost one in two people will get cancer at some point in their lives and Macmillan wants to ensure that no one should face cancer alone.
Every £28 raised could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
